The Ancient Olympic Games Exhibition
The Ancient Olympic Games exhibition is a major cultural event to complement the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the Olympic Equestrian Events being held in Hong Kong. In this exhibition, the British Museum has, for the first time, allowed the world-renowned marble sculpture The Discus Thrower to come to Hong Kong. There are more than 110 valuable items including a sculpture of Zeus and other sculptures, pottery, goldware, bronzeware, coins and medals. It also introduces the ancient city of Olympia, the home of the original Olympics, the different events held at the ancient Games i.e. the discus, the javelin, jumping, running, boxing, wrestling, chariot and horse races, as well as the ceremonies honouring the winners and associated religious activities.
To enhance people's understanding of the ancient Olympic Games, an education corner will be set up with a variety of activities and resource kits that allow visitors to experience the revelry of the most significant sporting event of ancient times.
